And I'm not saying that it's *necessarily* terrible to have the character of Despair be fat. Fat people can be anything.
But in Sandman, Despair is almost the only fat character. That makes her being fat read differently than if Despair was just one of many fat characters.
I'm simultaneously looking forward to and dreading how the Sandman TV show handles Despair.
In the comic, Despair is almost the only fat character (Gilbert and Cain being the other two, iirc), and it was not the greatest choice.

I finally chose a team that represents ME: starting with Snorlax. I’ve been fat my whole life. I was a fat little kid, I was a less fat teenager with an eating disorder & I’m a fat adult. But Snorlax’s fatness is part of their power & their comfortable with it. Me too, Buddy.
