The Legendary Axe (1988, JVC) - PC Engine

Sharp Pixels vs. PC Engine Composite via Sony KV-13M51

This one was especially impressive in person. I'd only ever seen this game sharp and the softer look is a lot prettier to my eye. The increased contrast also adds a lot of depth.

1. Solid lineart.
2. Soft shade with a multiply layer over a flat bg.
3. Do flats separately.
4. Combine all.
5. Lock pixels.
6. Begin to blend over top, sampling and switching between hard and soft brush to blend out the lines and and do little details.

I have some timelapses in media but I haven't original and\or complex pipeline 😅I use "multiply" for shading and "lock transparent pixels" for effects :D

🔽 for example

Sorry hon (But if for some reason it's still interesting to you, I'll be happy to chat with you)
