Keeping things loose helps me with likenesses, here's a Kylo from my days with Disney merchandise, the version with Adam's face was nixed in favor of the helmeted version, for royalty reasons, I'm sure. I think I managed to capture him fairly well with a loose approach.

i did a buuunch of exploration for the creatures in the moon, too. we approached it a few different ways, the initial idea was to have a bunch of front pieces and a bunch of back pieces that we could mix and match but it didn't quite work so we just went with 10 separate designs!

Pixel art tutorials often start by telling you to eliminate jagged outlines, noise, and color count.. these pieces of mine embrace them instead.

There are lots of ways to approach making art. Don't let “rules” discourage you from creating, just have fun and express yourself.
