I'm guessing the entire, like, art direction for the series changed (just going by the two characters who appear in Ultimate), which is probably why she was redesigned so radically. One for a more goofy cartoonish style, and one for a more series anime-ish style.

so I recently got access to Netflix and I watched these two. both have great animation with a loving style. there isn't really much more to compare, but I really like the direction animation is taking. both had so many great moments of grief, joy, and laughs.

Interesting combination of a military story w/classic shoujo anime elements & aesthetics. CGI was less charming than Stellvia but the Shichirō Kobayashi art direction and backgrounds are fantastic with many postcard memories abound. I liked it a lot. Wauf is cool. AERU!
