I have two actually!

1. If you think your picture is a bit flat, overlay texture on top & lower the opacity to your liking. (Personally I use textures like watercolor, or old paper.)

left has texture. Right does not have texture.

also, the skin looks ashy in the first one because i am using overlay/soft light layers and gradient maps, might change it to something more vibrant when i paint over (here's without the layers)

Let me note this here bc it got me thinking
The way I apply shadow to a flat color drawing is
picking a dark greyish purple, applying it with a solid brush on an overlay layer (layer opacity adjusted as necessary)
Now the gradient, I've done two ways, which do you prefer?

In my non sims story he has puss coming from his eyes and skin, but this was the best I could do in the sims XD

This is how he looks in the story. I might try find a way to make him more yellowish/green in the sims, if it will be possible with his skin overlay.
