Triumphal arches were commonly erected for big celebrations and visits in the 19th Century. This arch was built in 1816 half way up Park Street to welcome the Duke of Wellington who'd won the Battle of Waterloo the previous year.

At one of the busiest road junctions in London is The Royal Exchange.
The statue is of The Duke of Wellington. The bronze used to cast it was sourced from enemy cannon captured during Wellington's continental campaigns. He was never shy of savouring a victory.
