Mantegna sought to explore the emotion of events in the bible. His works of the Madonna & Child achieve great warmth & love. Madonna of the Cherubim (1485), Madonna of the Cave (1488-90) & Ecce Homo (c1500)

I never played Pokémon even as a kid
But my earliest memory of Pokémon was that I bought cards
And I remember the first Pokémon I got was a Cherubi
So hence why Ferris exist tho more of evolved form of Cherubi lol

Three Things to Remember

A Robin Redbreast in a cage,
Puts all Heaven in a rage.

A skylark wounded on the wing
Doth make a cherub cease to sing.

He who shall hurt the little wren
Shall never be beloved by men.

~ William Blake,1757-1827

I caught up on Helluva Boss and liked the cherubs designs, specifically the sheep and the deer. So I decided to incorporate some features like the hooves, snoot, and the wings. I think it tuned out cute. Well, only a little on the snoot. I think the ref helped me define it better.

Madonna lactans w/ eerie red & blue cherubim. Hyper-real yet utterly unreal. Right wing of the Melun diptych, 1450, by Jean Fouquet. It's his day.
