The entire time, the back of his hair has always ended at his neck.

Here, when his design changes (and he has a more orange hue which I adore), the lower part of his hair tends to extend outwards with no bounds. His fringes end just at the cheekbones.

Also his cheeks are less blocky than the previous image/design
