Did a bit more tweaking with Steve's idle sprite. Not entirely sure about the finished results. I'm thinking the Steve in the middle will most likely be the one I'm using for now.

Here's a screenshot of the idle from another angle if this helps at all, Tried angling the arms as close to the intended rotation as possible, I also used bone constraints to hold the feet to the floor while Mario was bobbing up and down as well.
