The one visual choice that didn't seem cut from the same cloth was the character designs themselves. They do fit nicely in a nostalgic picture like that, but if anything they just felt extremely inspired by the work of Fumiko Takano - the shapes of the faces especially so

For me it all boils down to how it’s presented, and the context. If it’s realistic gore or cartoon. An example from my webtoon. It’s a severed head but the context is comical so it’s not the same as a like some innocent person being murdered. It’s all about context.
