Two things I've been trying to practice lately.

1. Colour overlay on top of B&W values
2. The light contrast

Both makes me uncomfortable and I constantly feel like quitting halfway. But art attempts are still art and they don't look half bad. Deff out of my comfort zone.

I think I found the perfect artist to study contrast. The art I used as reference is from Sam Does Art. He's art has sharp lighting and strong color contrast, been a fan of his work for some time now. I still got a lot to learn before I reach his level of mastery.

Another Painting from observation for homework. I think Values are finally clicking for me. From what I have learnt it seems that the main goal of values is compression and simplification, taking in mind the limits of our chosen medium and how to control contrast.
