Sometimes they might even ask you to draft something & translate that to a mock asset there and then, kind of like "prototyping art by design".

This for example, I had about 35 mins to draw the character my designer described, then a sprite vers. all for a presentation that day.

I bring this up when I talk about trading card games like yugioh, or vanguard, or even Pokemon designs. Over the top detail doesn't necessarily mean "good design".
Simple is often much more memorable, even!
