Corde's Atom-kun! He's a program/virtual personal assistant who was reprogrammed from a Trojan Horse-esque virus. As such I decided to leave his lineart red to sort of hint to that. I also gave him blocky highlights for his hair for that 'digital' feel

The odd thing with C64 Barbarian was that the player graphics were almost entirely character-based. (Only the breast-plate and goblin were sprites? Maybe the blood too.) 🙂 So, apart from converting the sound, there wasn't much else to do. (I say, not having programmed it.) 😋

The controls are exactly the same on the C64 and Amiga versions. (They were programmed by the same guy, so the gameplay is identical .. the only difference in the Amiga version is the addition of a second bonus stage.)

Alternate version - when Neon's simplistic symbols are replaced by a 'face' it's a sign they're trying to regain control of the conversation. It's the way they were programmed to placate angry humanoid customers, with more relatable expressions, so it's kind of automatic

IMHO the Trap Door game is the 'better' game. They're both 2.5D - you can walk into the background/foreground. But the Popeye game presents the world in a strictly 2D manner, so you might not realise that at first. 😁 (He also programmed the similar-looking Flunky)
