The animated stuff here is pretty simple, just some looping gradients (scaled up strands here for clarity), then some sections are masked out randomly so it's not repetitive, and faded out at the ends

In case my process fascinates anyone. Sketch / finished art. I used the Turner watercolor brush on top of the lineart for the colors..and the hair highlights & little extra strands of hair with the Tapered liner. Used the water splatter brush for finishing touch on the jacket.

Aaaand like I said, after leaving it for an hour or two, I adjusted some things off stream and now I’m happy > w < stuff I changed:
• added white highlights and hair strands
• adjusted background colors
• added some sort of frame o v o)
