Jean-Honoré Fragonard(1732-1806)French painter/printmaker. Late Rococo manner distinguished by remarkable facility, exuberance & hedonism. Prolific in the last decades of the Ancien Régime. Among his most popular works r genre paintings w/atmosphere of intimacy/veiled eroticism.
A reaction to the formality and grandeur of the Baroque style, French Rococo (1730-1770) portraiture featured lighter, more whimsical social scenes and “an abundance of pastel tones.” Jean-Honoré Fragonard; “The Shepherdess” (c.1750-1752)

The See-Saw (c. 1751) was painted in the Rococo style by a 19-year old Jean-Honoré Fragonard.
It's a typical colorful and lively work by Fragonard. And the girl swinging up adds a level of dynamism that is rare for paintings from that period.

Fragonard created this exquisite image of a young girl reading c1776. The painter worked intuitively when it came to colour & brushwork. His approach is surprisingly modern. A stunning work.
Looking beyond today can go either way
Towards our past and vivid images of life
While the future appears dark and masked
The art of Jamie Adams American painter (b.1961 inspired by Fragonard) offers a cheerful reprieve with the contemplation of a happy past...
