Explorers of Sky has the best soundtrack! It's not a mainline game, but the music never felt droning or repetitive or unwelcome to me, and it always fit the atmosphere of what was going on!

Whenever Protoman is playable in a mainline game, he usually is the weakest character healthwise. this is likely to reference his unstable core. as such, the Protoshield is integral to protecting oneself when playing as him.
Alternatively you could just dodge enemy attacks.
