Also, while we're here - a side-by-side example of using white for his tunic vs light yellow. For the style/tone I'm going for, I think the yellow helps really sell the scene and the warmth of the room

Something important to note is that when I choose the color of the light source, I also employ a slightly desaturated/lightened version of that color and use it to fill in anything that's meant to be pure white, such as this guy's tunic. Here's other more "bright white" tunics:
