i'm talking about This. it's SO COMMON. The artist might use the right base tone AT FIRST, but then not know how to apply the highlight and washes out the tone to the point where the highlight color BECOMES the new base color, unintentionally washing out the value.

Inks are done. Washes are starting. This piece is lighter on lines and will largely use washes to define the planes of the face.

I leaned heavier on the washes than I usually do, so I did a quick edit and toned down the amount of feathering and hatching for this one.

If the lines are heavy, your wash should be light. If the wash is heavy, you may want to hold back on how much lifting your lines do, IMO.
