This watercolor and ink was a commission to commemorate Superman’s 50th anniversary.
Frazetta said that his version of ‘the Man of Steel’ was based on the style of Superman’s original creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster.

R.I.P. Ken Kelly.
His passing just came to my attention. I love his fantasy art and spent hours pouring over it. You could really see Frazetta's influence in his work. And he did study under him for a time.
