📌Screw it. New pinned post.📌

I love mythology (especially yokai) and horror stuff.
I mostly make characters and play around with design.
I mostly draw on paper, but on the rare occasion I'll do digital.

Friends? Friends.

In Norse mythology the sun is a wheel that changes the seasons & it was from the name of this wheel, houl, that the word yule came. At the mid-winter solstice they would light bonfires, tell stories, drink ale & generally make merry.

"On Yule Eve the sonar-boar was led into the hall before the king; then people laid their hands on its bristles and made vows" (Heimskringla)

and maybe this old sacrifice is remembered by eating pig cookies or pig's heads on Christmas

As Skoll,
With Sun's hateful fury,
Brutish & mocking,
With lupine - fire,
Scalds even ocean's water,
Searching kin - Hati for his undoing.

Still excited for the next

On the winter solstice, a white female animal (usually a reindeer) was sacrificed in honour of the Scandinavian goddess Beiwe, who travelled through the night sky in a structure made of reindeer bones to bring back the greenery on which these creatures fed.

The winter season has been associated with numerous deities: the Greek god, Boreas; Norse god, Ullr; Celtic goddesses Cailleach and Beira. Over time, the old gods and goddesses were often transformed into a more generalised 'Jack Frost'.

A Chinese water god called Gonggong, upset over losing a fight to the fire god Zhurong, smashed his head against Buzhou Mountain, one of eight pillars holding up the sky. This tilted the heavens, disrupting river flows & creating the solstices & equinoxes.
