Race swapping Kal is lazy. You had Lor-Zod aka Hernan Guerra from JL: Gods and Monsters along with Val-Zod.

Both characters were accepted by their audience without the split you currently see with Kal. They're doing this hoping to capture 'Black Panther' numbers.
