in 1869 Samuel John Birch was born in Egremont, Cheshire. Apart from a brief period of study at the Atelier Colarossi, Paris in 1895, he was largely self-taught as an artist.

Birch first visited West Cornwall in the late 1880s and settled in the Lamorna Valley in 1892

1869年のこの日、京都の上京第二十七番組小学校と下京第十四番組小学校で日本初の小学校開校式が行われた。国が学制を定める3年前のことだった。地域住民からの寄付や献金によって学校建設が進められ、同年末までに64の小学校が開校した🙄
