An assessment of all for me brings that season 3 is the best, with a close follow of season 2. The pacing in 3 is in comparison much better than other seasons (especially with how season 4 looks) and both writing and animation are most confident here.

New Zealand’s dry forest would probably be a good analog. As Hell Creek was a seasonally arid environment which had a lush wet seasons and cold harsh dry seasons.
