Augusta Savage is an African American sculpture and teacher who is known as the queen of the Harlem Renaissance. She also worked hard for equal rights for African Americans in the arts. Many of Savage’s students would go on to become nationally known artists and advocates.
Strelitzia alba, white bird of paradise, watercolour, pencil and ink wash by Franz #Bauer c.1800. He made numerous drawings of this striking family of plants. This one was previously known as Strelitzia augusta in honour of Augusta, Princess of Wales originator of @kewgardens
