My techniques for producing art include interpreting research. This is why I love collaborating with scientists & ornithologists. It's important to make the information accessible in a creative way. Pigeon Clock Graph, Limited-edition print, 42 x 59cm £75 https://t.co/henkClXm4M

January 29, 1888: English landscape painter Edward Lear dies.
Lear is better known as a writer of "nonsense verse", but his skill as an artist is impressive.
During his career, he worked for the @britishmuseum and made drawings of birds for the ornithologist John Gould. 🎨
John James Audubon (died January 27, 1851) - American ornithologist, naturalist and painter. Audubon's work of life was to catalog, describe, and paint the birds of North America.

John James Audubon’s Birds of America (1826-1838) is the finest ornithological work ever published. Its 435 hand-coloured plates depict 495 species, 25 of which Audubon discovered himself. Less than 200 sets were completed & still fewer survive today.
