I think it was necessary for Mikasa to detach the spine to the titan first cuz Eren can just transfer his consciousness to his brain. Thats why we can see him responding to the kiss by puckering his lips. Also Eren can't heal his whole body properly if he is still attached.

topology really depends on the model/character you created, with the imp i needed a decent topology to bend but when it comes to robots such as this fine fella as long as i get rid of the obvious un-necessary tri's you are generally fine, just keep bits that make the shape
