Topaz’s secretary was originally written to be a generic human before becoming Jewel the Beetle
However there was no model for Jewel by the time Episode 4 was being animated

Here's a better look at Patch, another of our robot characters! These are some preliminary sketches that I did to figure out their general shapes. Patch was originally a spaceship repair bot, which is why they have multiple sets of arms and thrusters built into their feet.
