I'm trying to improve my cell shading drawings... just adding a tiny quick amount of gradient makes them look much better! so I'm adopting this technique for future drawings and commissions as well!! :B

I did a heavy resprite of my demon lady (#halo for Pixel Dailies), threw that ugly cross in the thrash, tweaked the gradients, changed the bg colour and most importantly - worked on the outline (erased some of it).
Looks better and feels good to revisit 🔥🔥🔥

the NES has a feature where you can tint the whole screen by combining emphasis bits R, G and B. If you time the rendering of the scanline, you can make this happen in horizontal bands, making the gradient beneath it seem more colorful
