This is how I practice:

Deconstruction: break down the gestures, shapes and proportions of a reference subject.

Recall: use the deconstruction to redraw the subject. In my case, at a front angle.

Critique: spot the mistakes.

It also helps to provide a "Boots on the ground" scenario.

Take these similar scenes from Fantastic Four verses two similar ones from earlier comics.

The latter scenes make the situation feel bigger and the stakes even higher.
