Probably Little House on the Prairie & others in the same series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. But, when very small, I was given a beautifully illustrated book on the/a red squirrel. Fiction, non-fiction, it didn't matter - I simply enjoyed looking at it & it fed a love of nature.
