I was concerned when they put the P3 protag so high, but the moment they put Junpei above 3 mainline protags(technically 5 because Jihei and Maya aren't there)...

Whenever Protoman is playable in a mainline game, he usually is the weakest character healthwise. this is likely to reference his unstable core. as such, the Protoshield is integral to protecting oneself when playing as him.

Alternatively you could just dodge enemy attacks.
