That would make a lot of sense, actually. The one thing that has always bugged me about the Metroid series is how the Pirates look completely different in each game. The Pirates being a coalition of different races would also explain how Ridley qualifies as a Space Pirate.

It always bugged me that ppl think ultimate cosmic horror is a fat green man with an octopus on its head. When it should be horrifying to look at. IT should be unrecognizable to me not like an old doctor who villain. But that's just my opinion.
