here's the difference between direct color vs mono to color,, mono to color usually ends with a more muddied piece due to the Sheer Amount Of Edit Layers, whereas direct its just. one layer with Maybe a gradient at the end.

Took some time to get started on a couple of refs for myself. The green guy was originally designed by SleepyKyju. I made a couple of minor edits (changing the hue a bit and adding some gradients) Orange lady is my own old ass design.
I’m pretty happy with how these turned out!
