In the absence of central covenant authority and none of the major elite powers being able to control all their former territory the idea of some worlds or systems content to govern them selves appealed to me

@scificostumes Kazuma Kaneko is the designer most commonly associated with and lauded for his work on SMT, and also the one whose work I think would appeal most to you - search Kaneko's art from around the SMT:Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga period for best results imo

@PrimatePunk I compare the look of the original toy story to old n64 renders, yeah newer stuff is technically way better, but the old stuff has a roughness yet clear effort put into it that still makes it super appealing.
@taterderg Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. The angular character designs look midway between retro anime and a DC animated show from the 90's. The coloring is simple, with only minimal shading but that somehow makes it more appealing. There's more great ones, but I can only post 4.
@crimsonroze_ @adesyndicate on their respective shows, that's where things vary a lot. Save for obvious exceptions in that list, it's a generic 'main character designed to appeal'. Not a defense per se, just... it's weird to make this criticism independent of the variety of other designs in the examples.
