I love that Yusei Fudo’s outfit is a clear reference to Yugi Muto from Duel Monsters.

And the color design of his D-Wheel is a reference to Judai Yuki from GX

At one point, 5D’s was considered the finale to the YGO franchise so I like the homage to the two previous protags.

That's the thing about Monster High. If they wanted a certain race or culture representation they use their folklore/myth on creatures or monsters. That's how we got monster like Skelita, Jinaffire, Lorna, and Marisol.
