Only reason I can think of is because the early design didn’t have that second lighter color on the eye, so the pupil just wouldn’t really show on a dark iris
But like that’s what just came to my mind, honestly i have no idea

im pretty sure after season two all characters eyes were more “stylized” (so everyone now had the circle highlight+ the other colored highlight). also prob bc he’s meant to have black eyes, and you can’t tell the iris from the pupil irl
