All the constellations have a story behind them. Cancer the crab is no different. Hera sent it to distract Heracles during his fight with the hydra. He killed it but Hera placed it in the sky as a constellation because…at least it tried?
Some see the constellation of Virgo as Astraea, goddess of Justice. In the Golden Age the gods lived with us on earth but the increasing iniquity of humanity drove them one by one, to leave the earth and go to live in the heavens.
