For all of their faults story and continuity-wise, I do feel the animation in the Disney direct-to-video sequels did improve with the artists staying faithful to the look of the theatrical films. I don't think they get enough credit for that.

I don't LOVE retelling the show but I think that can still be fun. I also like the idea of telling side stories or even mild sequels.

You can collect, summon, train & evolve Yokai in Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits / Fleshy Souls, originally released for the 3DS!

There's 450 Yokai total. The sequels introduce "poking", sweetspots that can be pressed so Yokai join you more likely!
