Added watercolors on my sharpie/inkbrush sketch, this was really inexpensive paper that I got from CVS, was wondering if it could handle the water, it couldn't really. The ink ran and the colors muddied up, line work washed away, But fun experimenting all the same!

speculation time! i imagine deoxys has two distinct layers—the red-orange part is the outer layer which provides protection at the expense of sleekness. this is made obvious by the shift to defense form where the abdomen is covered and is built bulkier; the black parts disappear.
