When I do close ups of eyes I like to add more details like veins and stuff. If I show the inside of a character's mouth, I try to draw the different teeth, delineating between incisors, canines and molars. I try to show the difference between Isis and Rahab's hands...

Something I found useful for c•mmissi•ning a/rt is if I can’t find reference images for what I want I will draw stick figures. I also label them or add little notes. All the times I’ve done this have helped with communicating what I was envisioning.
