Read Providence by Alan Moore and (no relation-probably). While it was beautifully illustrated the story left me a bit flat. All the Lovecraft deconstruction you could want, but with an overstory that just wasn't engaging enough. It seemed to wander around too much.

With the "Sonic is supposed to be both cool and cute" mentality, i always thought Ohshima's rendition of modern Sonic weirdly facinating, don't know why. iirc Yuji Naka himself seemed to want Sonic to be more cool than cute, i don't really know Ohshima's angle, though.
