2017: Hey my favorite seasons of two animes I love and two underrated gems. I will gush about all four of these any day.
This year also gave us New Game!!, Kakegurui, and BanG Dream! so a pretty solid year. And I’ll add Classroom of the Elite because season 2 exists now
2017: i don't care about horizon zero dawn, sorry! And I hate DDLC! (A Mortician's Tale was cute but not mind-blowing to me) So NieR Automata it is!
2017: A Condition Called Love
Honorable mentions: Mystery to Iunakare, Blue Flag, and Raise wa Tanin ga ii
2017: Shadows of Adam
Cool, short RPG with four characters each with a specific role in combat they excel at, and learning how those work with the fixed combat encounters is the deal. Beautiful artwork and environment animations.
(I'm probably gonna stream this sometime)
As its Phonon's birthday, several illustrations by the Under Nigth In-birth dev team were released to commemorate the event over the years. They're shown below

2017: this year marks the release of Nier Automata and, with it, the first instance of yoko taro directing a game that does not suck ass to play. you can have fun while playing award-winning game "Nier: Automata". you will not say "oh I'll just watch this on youtube".
2017: Nier Automata
this game rules. also i came out this year too. no connection at all. dont even worry about it .
2017: Life is Strange: Before the Storm
2016: Dark Souls III
2015: Life is Strange
2014: Drakengard 3
2017: Boku no Hero Academia 2 (Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon close behind)
2017: BotW. As a big Zelda fan, BotW was such a fresh experience. I had a lot of fun playing it on my new Switch that I waited in line outside of Walmart at like 6am in the Canadian winter to get.
Bonus: Persona 5 the goat. All I ate was tofu when I played this game. Idk why.
2017: Owarimonogatari (下)
this year has a lot of tough competition but ultimately the choice is easy
2017: Nier: Automata
Probably on a lot of peoples 2017 pick if I had to guess. I don't think I have to say much about this game that people don't already know. Only complaint is combat is pretty plain really but its very flashy.
2017:
Nier Automata, yeah speaks for itself, I need to finish the other endings
2017: Little Witch Academia (Since I already put Kobayashi in this list)
Honorable Mention: Gabriel Dropout
Yuri Ships (that I know) that managed to get to number 1 on anitrendz (Best Couple Ship):
2017: Yuu x Touko (Bloom Into You)
2020: Catarina x Maria (My Next Life As A Villainess)
2022: Chisato x Takina (Lycoris Recoil)
