1. GOOD ANATOMY, BAD SHADING
This is really common. Shading is something you can’t learn in a day, but anatomy is easily traced. If the shading is too flat, airbrushed, or there’s generally a huge disconnect… that’s reason to get suspicious!

Each character has two layers, the sketch & the color. This made things easy for me when I recolored everyone to white and then merged them all into one layer

I then overlaid an airbrushed purple gradient from left to right.

I was for a while obsessed with the idea of the airbrushed 3d look for stylised characters. Something shiny, marketable. Found a knack for it at some stage but ended up talking myself out of exploring further as it seemed gruelling and soulless.

17/ My solution was to separate Radcliffe's head and the owl entirely from the painting, then recombine the two. To blend everything together, I added a painted backdrop and then airbrushed shoulder details to convincingly match Struzan's style.
