Here's a view of the famous Horsehead Nebula located 1,375 light-years away in Orion. This is a color-composite made from images acquired with @NASAHubble in infrared light in 2012 (PI Z. Levay). In optical light it appears as a dark silhouette against a brighter background.

Behold, my horsehead sona. Considering maining the left outfit, but I still like the green dress, just wish I made it more fluid

I sorted my astro data this weekend (it's a pure mess!) and stumbled upon some horsehead data. I gave it a reprocess with some new tricks. Here it is! Many hours of dual narrowband data, shot with the Redcat telescope. #Astrophotography

I’m not really a fan of starless images, but I was checking out my additional exposures captured the last two nights on The Horsehead Nebula, and it really gives you an interesting perspective on the region. #Astrophotography
Horsehead Nebula in Ha (Hydrogen Alpha Emissions). This is part of my current work in progress on this target. Shot from the city - Bortle 8-9 zone. This is 3 panels of a mosaic with 5.5 hours on each panel. #Astrophotography
The Flame Nebula is a large star-forming region in the constellation Orion that lies about 1,400 light-years from Earth. It’s a portion of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, which includes such famous nebulae as the Horsehead Nebula and Orion Nebula.

Last night I photographed the Horsehead and Flame Nebulas. I collected 29 800 second exposures for a total of close to 7 hours of data. I’m totally blown away by how this came out compared to last year. Also I threw in the red channel so you can really see that hydrogen alpha.
The dark Horsehead Nebula and the glowing Orion Nebula are contrasting cosmic vistas. Adrift 1,500 light-years away in one of the night sky's most recognizable constellations, they appear in opposite corners of the this stunning mosaic [read more: https://t.co/hp6a0GlyvV]
