Here is a close-up of the overlooked gang of goblins in Lightmine Field from Rise of the Eldrazi.

Planeswalker Elspeth travels to the world of Theros to seek out the gods.

“Elspeth, Sun's Champion” from Magic's Theros set.

“Olivia Voldaren” from Magic’s Innistrad set. I really enjoyed painting the masquerade ball-like setting of this piece.

Ajani, Wise Counselor. Typically a planeswalker’s head breaks out of the art frame at the top. With this Ajani card I thought I’d see if the team would be cool with having his weapon pop out of the bottom of the frame instead.

This is the marketing art from Dragon’s Maze. The team at Wizards loved the background and eventually asked me to paint out Ral Zarek so that they could use the image as a promo plains card for the set.

Tuvasa was a tad more cheerful in the sun originally, with the corners of her mouth up-turned in a smile.

Nahiri, the Lithomancer pulling a newly forged sword out a boulder. From Commander 2014.

Ral Zarek was originally described to me as a thrill-seeker and daredevil, always pushing the envelope. A powerful mage of storms—lightning, thunder, and wind.

Sometimes, one fireball isn't enough...New MTG art done for Adventures in Forgotten Realms.

Three old friends gather on the bridge of the Weatherlight.

I was lucky enough to illustrate Venser three times before his eventual demise. Here he is as “Venser, Shaper Savant.”

Disciple of the Sun previewed. I think this is my favorite one that I did for the set.

After I handed in the sketch for ASH ZEALOT, I had to remove the face paint and stringy hair. It looked too much like the Gruul clan from the same set.

Too much tracking for the “Tireless Tracker.”

Sketch on the back of an artist proof.

I’ve had the opportunity to work on younger versions of six of the planeswalkers—preteen Chandra is definitely my favorite!

Sarkhan Unbroken, a full bleed mythic edition card from Magic’s WAR OF THE SPARK release. I loosely made a dragon head out of Sculpey for reference and the last image is an alternative idea for the card.

Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator from the Commander Legends release. Also, here are the sketches for Malcolm with a bonus Starfield Mystic on the same page :)
