Contrast would have been really nice, like if the outside was a stark documentary-looking place and the Oasis was amazing. Contrast, immersion, weight, awe – things that the film says over and over (and over) that people experience in the Oasis, but which we do not, watching RPO.

Travelers moving through the desert sometimes claim to see a floating oasis, which is really a Distortoise moving towards them. Distortoise can emit powerful psychic clouds that distort reality for those nearby.

In my head cannon, the gunslinger had followed the birds to this oasis, but his pistol awakens the ambusher worm hiding behind the waterfall. The symbol on the cape was to represent an early game concept of an emblem received after enough xp. Which are now Deed cards.
