Just a neat place to put this fun fact: Yuji Uekawa and Satoshi Okano both collaborated on Sonic's design for SA1, and for the final art Okano did all the drafts and sketches while Uekawa finalized them. Funniest thing is this imo:

Look at images of said art style and observe it closely, then try it and use different brushes to try to get it
Example - i tried doing the SA1/2 style
1 one i tried using only the same brush
2 time i used a more sa1/2ish brush and followed the main rules

On straight up classic Sonic the green eyes and big ass buckle don't really work, it works best on modern (but mostly sa1) sonic because it was a new design that kept the influence of classic in a new looser style. Context matters when you wanna add details to something.
