21 July 1403. At the Battle of Shrewsbury the Lancastrian King Henry IV (depicted, right) defeated a rebel army led by Henry “Harry Hotspur” Percy from Northumberland, who was killed. The battle reaffirmed the effectiveness of the longbow in battle.
17 July 1453. French forces under Jean Bureau defeated the English led by the Earl of Shrewsbury at the Battle of Castillon. It’s considered the last major battle of the Hundred Years’ War. As a result, the English lost all landholdings in France, except Calais.

**Dangerous Beauties**
One dangerous beauty was Anna Maria Talbot (née Brudenell), Countess of Shrewsbury (1642–1702). Her adulterous liaison with 2nd Duke of Buckingham led to a duel in which her husband, Francis, was killed. 🤺⚔💔
Shrewsbury had played a key part in the 'Glorious Revolution' & as a minister under Anne. He was stripped of his offices by George I & was reliant on his wife's influence to keep him from being impeached along with the earl of Oxford...
