For prompt 10. Echoing I chose a cow tail ray- recently confirmed to communicate using striking clicks. https://t.co/IUar3y9oGz

Day 9: This one gave pause for thought. Crab shell? The crystalline shells of diatoms? Mussels or molluscs? No. I'm settling for more This time it's a in its shell, in & And a walnut tree to go with

Project Animalia
Day 458: Serrated hinge-back tortoise (Kinixys erosa)
(Also day 8 "creeping")

Has a handy hinge on the back end of its carapace so it can close the door for protection!

here’s my entry for alarming! A lil puffer fish inflating because it feels threatened.

theme today is “soft” and a good excuse to step out of my comfort zone, drawing an invertebrate and using pastels.

Vampire squid (Vampyroteuthis infernalis) sketch.

Days 2 and 5 of (because doing things in order, or on time, is hard 😛) A “monstrous” Texas Blind Salamander, top predator of its cave environment, and “mirrored” axolotls

Some raw photos of two of the three drawings I picked at this last week. I decided to warm up by inking over a now forgotten species of fossil archosaur (can anyone ID this?), and testing out a brush pen by drawing a fish based on Poraspis. . Enjoy!

Today’s theme is “mirrored”.
Apparently, the cleaner wrasse (Labroides dimidiatus) is able to recognise their reflection on a mirror, this showing some sense of self-consciousness (Kohda et. al 2018).

For today’s prompt “mirrored” I think the Mirror Neuron fits quite well!!

Pato crestón / crested duck (_Lophonetta specularioides_)

day 5: mirrored
This one is a little bit forced. The species name "specularioides" derives from latin word "speculum", a mirror. This name was given in reference to its speculum

5. Mirrored. Have had a massive artistic block for a few weeks. Using sciartseptember prompts for creative inspiration for quick sketches. Hopefully I can merge them into one large cohesive image.

Day 4 of - "Schooling". Clown loaches tend to live in groups of atleast 6!

2 20

Off theme but 1. Survivor, 2 Monstrous, 3. Captive, 4. Schooling. Had to play quick catch up today. Will try and fit all 30 images onto this page.

Day 3 of is Captive, so I sketched one of my (captive) leaf insect gals! She ended up becoming a red colour morph even though her mum was not ❤️💚
