Throwback to my three illos on the topic of bycatch 🎣🦈🪶 The unseen additional victims of our food choices, collateral damage on top of the bodies on our plates 🍣🐋🥢
Every year an estimated 300k+ cetaceans, 400k+ seabirds, and 50M+ sharks die in fishing nets globally 🐧🐬🐟
OK one more before bed. Quaxly may look and quack like a duck. But it's probably also inspired by the Blue Footed Booby, a seabird whose name is derived from the Spanish word "bobo" meaning "foolish."

Finally got around to making a ref sheet for Jaq! Also updated her design to be more in line with her seabird-y nature~
Was researching seabirds of the Atlantic and came across this guy. The Razorbill.
The Razorbill is the closest living relative of the Great auk, and they really do look alike.
It really makes me miss the Great Auk, what a wonderful little bird we just missed.
I’m enjoying painting watercolours, this one is by far the largest. ‘Puffin’ Watercolour . 30x40 cm #watercolourpainting #watercolourart #puffins #birds #seabirds #acuarela #acuarelasobrepapel #pajaros #art #arte #contemporaryart #artecontemporaneo #petrapalmeriart #guernsey
Chris is from Malta and grew up inspired by his father's work on Maltese shearwaters.
@ChrisCachiaZamm: "I spent much of my summer school holidays watching rafts of shearwaters and listening to them flying to their burrows at night."

While I primarily based this scene off of documentary footage of roosting/nesting seabirds, I also used Mark Witton’s depiction of Pelagornis as a reference. I just loved the image of one of these huge false-toothed birds tending to its young, so I tried taking a stab at it.
It's December, and so it's time for a new #SeabirdShowOff!
This month we are featuring artwork by Tara Okon (@rivers_disguise).
Tara works as an artist in her spare time, with much of her work being inspired by the birds that she loves to watch, draw and read about 🪶
